Did you say... Mindfulness?
We know the word, but do we know the meaning and how to use it in our daily lives? Is it just another trend, destined to fade, or is something else, important enough to be taken seriously, as a business, as an academic and scientific field and as a better way to live and to cope with health problems?
Jon Kabat-Zinn was the man who transformed buddhist meditation into a stress reduction method, giving it the scientific frame it now has, in american culture. The technique, which combines meditation and Hatha yoga, is being used by famous CEOs (from Apple and Google, to quote a few) and is progressively conquering a its own place in the university programs. Designed to to help patients cope with stress, pain, and illness by using what is called "moment-to-moment awareness", Mindfulness has come to stay. Among psychiatrists, also.
Read more about it in Iva Tarle's post How is Mindfulness Used by Psychiatrists? and check how mental health professionals are incorporating the method in their clinical practice, in Psychology Tomorrow Magazine.
